The music is composed by Anu Malik with lyrics written by Prasoon Joshi, Shabbir Ahmed and Gulzar. The film was remade in Telugu as Golmaal Again (2004), starring Jagapathi Babu, Srikanth and Sarika in lead roles. It was also remade into Bengali as Golmaal Returns (2014), starring Dev and Tota Roy Chowdhury in lead roles. In the first story, "Golmaal", Aamir Khan stars as Gopal Deshpande, a man who has been searching for his wife Nirmala (Konkona Sen Sharma), after she mysteriously disappears upon their marriage. He later discovers that she was kidnapped by Jimmy who then blackmails him into becoming his servant, but Gopal later discovers that Nirmala has been posing as Jimmy's wife since he is a wanted criminal, and she makes Gopal promise not to turn him into the police. Bringing another misunderstanding into the mix, Bipasha Basu stars as Rinki, a girl who falls in love with Deshpande (a.k.a. Gopal) and follows him to Mumbai after he leaves for work, unaware of her true identity. In the second story titled "Golmaal Returns", Akshay Kumar and Rimi Sen star as Vijay and Shonali Gujral respectively. The former is a man who wants to make his fortune and the latter only wants to make it big in the fashion industry. An interesting twist arises when they meet at a mall and realize that they are long lost relatives. Their true identities, Jimmy and Gopal were revealed in the first film. The third story, "Golmaal" tells the story of Jimmywho lives as a normal college student but commits many robberies as well as extorting money from people. At last he is caught by the police and gets sentenced to jail for life, but Gopal comes to rescue him from prison after receiving a mysterious call about his brother by phone and brings him home where he hides his face behind a blue beard. The fourth story, "Golmaal Returns" has Salma Agha playing the role of Janki. She is madly in love with Jimmy and wants to marry him. Jimmy is reluctant to do so much so that he brings his three friends disguised as mysterious men but finally agrees on the condition that Janki should forget about him if he does not marry her.
